The Identity
With this conceptual rebrand, there is one foundational shift:
The “District” represents so much more than just DC. Originally created from 100 square miles of combined territory, DC has Maryland and Virginia DNA coursing through every street, park, and neighborhood.
With similar roots in Boston, the New England Patriots are a relevant and appropriate parallel for what a team can mean to a region, despite city or state location.
The District represents the DMV, at its cellular level, and this team should do the same.
Colors
Mudbank Burgundy
R: 124 G: 20 B: 21 HEX: 7C1415
Much like the ultisols that color the banks of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, burgundy is fundamental to the identity of both the DMV and Washington Football.
The word “Ultisol” is derived from “ultimate”, because Ultisols were seen as the ultimate product of continuous weathering of minerals in a humid, temperate climate.
Daybreak Gold
R: 255 G: 182 B: 18 HEX: FFB612
As predictable as the rising of the morning sun, our success is assured through hard work and clarity of purpose. The warmth of our eastern glow is a spark waiting to ignite.
The District is golden by nature and effort.
Aquia Creek Cream
R: 243 G: 230 B: 202 HEX: F3E6CA
Aquia Creek sandstone is a local stone, quarried in Stafford County, VA. It was selected by George Washington to be the primary material in DC’s federal government buildings, including the original US Capitol Building and the White House.
In fact, the Boundary Markers of the original DC are also honed from this foundational stone.
